Bait al Zubair Museum
We did something a little different and went to a museum. The Bait al Zubair Museum is an Omani cultural museum built and maintained by the Zubair Family Cultural Foundation. They have a collection of Cultural and Art items on display here. We enjoyed the ibex and Oryx statues outside on the grounds. Photographs are technically not allowed in the building so here you will mostly get to see the grounds which we browsed quite quickly to get out of the heat.
I made a photo exception for this display because I wanted to remember and chat with my sisters about these traditional remedies that they use! I found all their charts-in English and Arabic-fascinating. They have giant wall sized charts which are very technical and descriptive to show everything from how the traditional Omani dagger or Khanjar is created (labeling all it's parts) to how rose water is made and how Frankincense is harvested. We were the only patrons at the museum and some buildings were closed, but I felt like it was well-worth the $8 I paid, since all the kids were free. The kids all enjoyed it except Elise who wanted to run around with free rein and since I haven't taught her good museum manners with everything closed for the past 2 yrs I couldn't really allow her to do that. While there are signs that say "Do not touch" the displays are very accessible to be touched. The grounds were pretty and the other buildings were super charming if they had been open.
