Flight into Egypt Day #1
For Christmas this year we opted to travel. We thought about it a lot, compared prices and ideas and we ultimately decided on a Nile Cruise in Egypt. We aren't in a financial position to go all out so we definitely had to make some sacrifices for this trip. I feel like that's easier said than done with a family our size. There's a lot to factor in and a lot of expectation and emotion wrapped up in the whole process. Ultimately, I feel we made a good decision. Here's the story.
Eli finally arrived the night before we were to leave. The poor kid had been flying for days and had quite the time of it so when he finally arrived almost 10 hrs late we were relieved. It was wonderful to see my kids together again. We missed Luke at every turn though. Being able to take a trip like this with so many of them was really a privileged feeling.
They all love flying and being able to watch whatever they wanted. Emirates Air was great. Comfortable even in the cheap seats with an incredible entertainment selection. Elise learned to play pac-man, I watched an insiring documentary about Eliod Kipchoge and an Arabic teaching show, everyone else just watched movie after movie.
So this whole trip is my chance to see the world of Amelia Peabody. Nothing in Egypt can be experienced without her in my mind. When the lunch passed out by the airline was a cucumber sandwich I almost lot my mind. Amelia LOVES cucumber sandwhiches!
1st stop, Dubai. I wish we could've taken a day to take Eli to the Expo but we hit up Shake Shack for lunch at the airport instead.
I kept trying to get that perfect family shot with something that said Egypt. This picture pretty much illustrates these attempts perfectly.
Goodnight to the Middle East.
Throughout this trip this girl kept us on our toes. She's really been a champ for the most part, but also, she has been a lot of work.
Our hotel, The Intercontinental, was lovely and it had a beautiful view of the Nile. It was COLD for us Omani residents. We tried to sleep the best we could but since we were meeting our guide at 8:30am and we needed to get ready, pack out and eat breakfast, there was nothing relaxing about our time there except that I was up before the sun without much to do.
