Happy Thanksgiving in Salalah

I was haunted that night by this fear of missing the sunrise which actually happened much later than I anticipated if I'd only known.
We had a long drive ahead of us but we started out with a lovely breakfast at the hotel in Duqum. I thought I took a picture but I can't find it so maybe not. It was a long drive, maybe 7 hrs? We made one little stop, at a breathtaking beach. Since we took the coastal road, it was so tempting just to hang our hat at any of these beaches and be satisfied but we kept going.  The beach had dolphins though, actually we saw a lot of dolphins on this whole trip. It had a few shells and a truck selling baskets pulled up and sold Matt three. Two of them have camelskin tops.

In Salalah and all over the southern part of Oman you share the road with the animals. Camels and Cattle are ALL OVER the roads. The goats will come and go but not the camels. The just look at you and keep on their merry way.
Before we actually got into Salalah we stopped for this hike at the . . .I can't think of it. We met up with some embassy friends and hiked it together. It was really just a short walk but we were all so tired of driving. It was very windy up on the mountain so I had to keep a hold on my hat. You can barely see them as dots in the above photo but there were camels everywhere. As we were at the top they came over to inspect our cars. Curious little creatures they were!

There were cute little lizards and a very adorable walking stick.

Our friend Mohammad (who we call MK because our other friend's name is also Mohammad and the both actually by Mo) took these pictures. The colors were really intense in the sunset.

There's Sam, finding the first of probably 300 beetles he brought home from this trip.
