Wadi Howar

This was a unique and exciting trip. In some ways I'm surprised it ever happened. I would definitely call it a success though. 4 families and a lot of different dynamics in our favorite wadi.  I've gotten more into my video footage on my gopro of late so there aren't a lot of photos.

Something I loved was the passion each kid had to take on a challenge. The challenges were different for each but they are kids and all kids secretly or not so secretly, want a challenge. Here you could choose to use the palm tree, or the chain and steps or you could actually go through the water and do none of those things. These kids wanted to be sure they could do both.

My kids are so used to these climbs and hikes that I am more afraid of their over-confidence. I can see how it has made them aware of their bodies though. Good stuff.

The favorite part was certainly the jumping. We spent a long time here with all the kids doing jumps-except Alena actually. There were some seriously brave kids doing some pretty great jumps. The women weren't so into it. I wish I could learn to do it without my head filling with water. I love wadi Howar. The teens got to finish the majority of the hike, the really amazing parts but some people were kind of done. I think we actually made it the perfect length and got home in the nick of time for piano lessons, or would have if we hadn't had traffic.

The kids have associated wadi adventures with juices and ice cream. We hadn't actually been to anyplace we could hit up on the way home but we found a little juice shop that made these elaborate juices with lots of fresh fruit and little additions. We can't wait to go back.
