Zagreb

Zagreb is a place I'd like to return to. Everything we wanted to see was closed or undergoing renovation.  There are so many buildings, so many lovely places and people were friendly and wore more clothing haha. We didn't leave the hotel until pretty late because we slept in and enjoyed our buffet breakfast. So, it was a short day but nobody seemed to mind too much. We had some logistical things to do as well like return the van, get snacks for the train tomorrow and print tickets.

This was a very long sequence of tunnels used as a bomb shelter. It is easy to imagine what it was like to take refuge their with 100's of people during a bombing.
This church was much different from any church I've seen. Again, couldn't go inside.
Tribute to Tesla.
I was really the only one who wanted to venture into the museums. Zagreb has some really quirky museums. Funny thing is, every time I mentioned going somewhere, suddenly everyone wanted to go. I assured them I was happy to go alone but they came anyway. This was The Museum of Naive Art. It was mostly very charming and everyone enjoyed it. While we were there Elise was the first of the 3 youngest to finish my summer math book challenge. She finished every 5th page of the 1st grade Horizons math book. The math she's doing at TAISM is very different. I taught her to carry and how to set up a subtraction problem without having to draw the whole thing out. She was mind-blown at how that worked. Poor kid.

After the museum we ate at a traditional Croatian restaurant for our last meal in Croatia. It was different without a doubt. Eli decided to try tripe. That was the most extreme of the meals, I got vegetable soup and gnocchi with gorgonzola sauce-perfectly normal. Elise spaghetti-also normal, Brigham, Sam and Matt got the peasant's meal which was like a stuffed pepper or cabbage, ham or sausage, beans. . .I don't know. Sennia got something everyone seemed to like which was a sort of fried chicken cheese breaded thing. We ended with apricot and apple strudels except Elise who wanted one last ice cream cone.

While Matt was working on groceries and car stuff I took the kids to the pool and tried to do some yoga. It was much more of a bumpy procedure than I'd hoped. I got them back and have them tea and bread/rice cake for Elise and tucked them in. Then here I sit in the window as the sun goes down, blogging the details of these days before they all transform into dreams.
